In essence, Netiquette, or network etiquette, is all about maintaining a good network environment, that is, a good technical environment in which things function efficiently and an orderly social environment in which people can work effectively. To practise good network etiquette, users need to have a general awareness of the impact of their actions on other network users and on the network itself and to be considerate in their use of the network. This section aims to build awareness of some of the major sensitive areas and to suggest relevant guidelines for good network etiquette. It looks at legal aspects, the use of network resources particularly in relation to Telnet and FTP, and good practice in the use of email and News. References to additional reading can be found in the Bibliography.
